SpeakSafe trainings are conducted by Marlene Capra, Executive Director and Founder of SpeakSafe, together with our Intern Team of high school and college students. Each session combines survivor voices, lived experience, and professional expertise gained from working daily with families, youth, and multidisciplinary teams. Our approach is interactive, trauma-informed, and grounded in real-world strategies to help participants recognize and respond effectively to exploitation.

This endeavor is funded by donations from private individuals, organizations, churches, grants, and foundations generated through presentations to community stakeholders. We will also seek grants and donations through fundraising efforts. One hundred percent of funding raised is allocated to the anti-human trafficking educational programs to prevent exploitation of the youth in our community.

Education is the key to prevention and to enabling our youth to speak safely about their situations. We also educate those in a position to be alerted to problematic situations with our youth. By educating our community stakeholders: police, sheriff, service providers, foster youth, LBGTQ +, colleges, educators, and youth, we are developing a collaborative model for identifying, reporting, and supporting those in a victimized situation. Using a preventative approach, developing core strategies to build and maintain a healthy community, and developing long-term strategies helps to prevent exploitation. Through these efforts Speak Safe seeks to change community conditions and to bring awareness so we can influence standards, structures, systems and polices.
