OUR PROGRAMS

  • Education to elementary, middle, high school students to gain knowledge on the signs, behaviors, and resources of exploitation, as well as providing support and empowerment to youth to get assistance for themselves and their peers.

  • Support to educators in rolling out the education to youth.

  • Education to our community and parent body with speakers, resources, and follow up.

  • Creating surveys, support networks,  in an effort to increase access to services through our local service providers.

How Our Program Works

We create discussions so youth feel safe in coming forward.

  • SpeakSafe is in Marin County in Northern California, serving all communities including Marin City, Corte Madera, Larkspur, San Anselmo, Fairfax, Ross, Kentfield and Greenbrae, San Rafael, and Novato. Presentations are conducted throughout all of Marin County including; public, private, alternative and charter schools, governmental agencies, churches, and community and recreational centers.

  • Currently the presentations are conducted by the Marin PROTECT (Prevention Organized to Educate Communities on Trafficking) Liaison for Human Trafficking, Marlene Capra, and co-presented by Marin Youth Volunteer Leaders: Stevie Gould, Lindsay Dubin, Tatum Quon, Tessa Pares.

Trained professionals and student victims collaborate to bring a full perspective including all voices together to present this valuable tailored information from an educational standpoint as well as from those who have been exploited.

  • This endeavor is funded by donations from private individuals, organizations, churches, grants, and foundations generated through presentations to community stakeholders. We will also seek grants and donations through fundraising efforts. One hundred percent of funding raised is allocated to the anti-human trafficking educational programs to prevent exploitation of the youth in our community.

  • Education is the key to prevention and to enabling our youth to speak safely about their situations. We also educate those in a position to be alerted to problematic situations with our youth. By educating our community stakeholders: police, sheriff, service providers, foster youth, LBGTQ +, colleges, educators, and youth, we are developing a collaborative model for identifying, reporting, and supporting those in a victimized situation. Using a preventative approach, developing core strategies to build and maintain a healthy community, and developing long-term strategies helps to prevent exploitation. Through these efforts Speak Safe seeks to change community conditions and to bring awareness so we can influence standards, structures, systems and polices.
